Shooting Investigation in Simpson County

(Bowling Green, KY) - On Friday, November 7, 2014 at approximately 3:20 PM Kentucky State Police Post 3 Bowling Green was contacted by Tennessee Law Enforcement requesting assistance in stopping a vehicle being operated by Joseph L Parker (45) of Springfield, Tennessee, who was traveling on I 65 north in Simpson County, Kentucky. Mr. Parker was wanted in connection with a murder that had taken place in Tennessee.
KSP Troopers observed Mr. Parker operating a 2007 Toyota Camry traveling north at the 10.2 mile marker. Mr. Parker continued to the 12.6 mile marker when he pulled over on the right-hand shoulder of the road way. After a short standoff Mr. Parker shot himself while sitting in the driver seat of his vehicle.
Mr. Parker was pronounced dead in the scene by the Simpson County Coroner's Office. An autopsy is scheduled in Louisville, Kentucky. The investigation is still ongoing and is being led by Detective Wes Medley.
