Injury Collision on I-64 in Rowan County

(Morehead, KY) - On January 15, 2014 at 8:09pm Kentucky State Police Morehead received a call from Morehead Dispatch advising of a two vehicle injury accident at the 143 mile marker on Interstate 64 in Rowan County. Sergeant Jeff Lewis, Trooper Chris Jones, Rowan County Sheriff Deputy Donnie Hall, and Rowan County EMS responded to the scene. Eli Lucas, 66 of Jenkins, Kentucky and Tara Lyons, 36 of Olive Hill, Kentucky were both traveling east bound on Interstate 64. Mr. Lucas lost control of his 1989 Chevrolet pickup and struck Ms. Lyons' 2010 Chevrolet Malibu causing her to also lose control. Mr. Lucas' pickup over turned and came to final rest in the median. The Malibu came to final rest off of the eastbound right shoulder of the road. Mr. Lucas and Ms. Lyons were transported to Saint Claire Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained in the accident. Gary Kanes, 64 of Elkhorn City, Kentucky and Vivian Kanes, 58 of Virgie, Kentucky were passengers in Mr. Lucas's vehicle and were also transported to Saint Claire Regional Medical Center. All victims are listed in stable condition at this time. Accident remains under investigation by Trooper Jones.
