Injury Collision Investigation in Rowan County

(Morehead, KY) - On February 1st 2014 at 02:55 p.m, Kentucky State Police Morehead received a call for service from Rowan County Dispatch requesting assistance on a two vehicle injury accident at KY 801 and US 60 west. Trooper Keith Howard, Trooper Scott Caudill, Trooper Bryant Furman, Trooper Brandon Burton, Rowan County Sheriff Deputy Backer Hollis, Farmers Fire & Rescue, and Rowan County EMS responded to the scene. Christopher Maness, 36, of Nashville Tennessee was traveling west on US 60 in a 2006 Dodge mini van, when Mr. Maness failed to come to a stop at the intersection causing him to collide with a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt traveling south on 801 north, operated by Shelia Abernathy, 40, of Jemison Alabama. Mr. Maness was treated and transported by Rowan EMS to St. Claire Medical center in Morehead, Kentucky where he is listed in stable condition. Ms. Abernathy was airlifted from the scene and transported to University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky where she is listed in critical condition. Drugs or alcohol is not believed to be a contributing factor in the accident. This collision remains under investigation by Trooper Keith Howard.
