January Activity with February Checkpoint

(Morehead, KY) - Kentucky State Police at Post 8 Morehead announce the final traffic and criminal activity report for January 2014. During January Post 8 personnel issued 2,077 total citations. Of those citations, 11 were for DUI, 122 were for Speeding, 177 for No Seat Belt, and 14 for Child Restraint. In addition, there were 1,481 Vehicle Inspections and 363 Courtesy Notices issued. Post 8 also investigated 57 Traffic Collisions. Post 8 personnel also investigated 1,007 Complaints. A total of 62 Criminal Cases were opened and 283 Criminal Arrests were made for the month of January 2014.
Additionally, Captain Brian Bowling, Commander of the Kentucky State Police at Morehead, announces that Troopers of the Morehead Post will be conducting Safety Checkpoints in addition to Moving Patrols throughout the Post 8 area during the entire month of February as well the remainder of the year 2014. Motorists are urged to be cautious and obey reduced speeds through road constructions.
Kentucky State Police kicks off an enforcement campaign called Operation R.A.I.D. (Remove Aggressive, Impaired and Distracted drivers from Kentucky Roadways). The effort was developed by KSP Commanders across the state to target driving behaviors that cause most crashes in Kentucky. Operation R.A.I.D. began February 1, 2014 and runs through February 16, 2014.
This concentrated enforcement effort will utilize Troopers and Detectives assigned to and working the Morehead post area. Members of the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) will also be utilized. They will focus on enforcing violations of Speeding, No Seat Belt, Child Restraint, Impaired Driving Laws, and Texting While Driving, as well as other violations of the Traffic Laws of Kentucky.
