February Activity with March Checkpoint

(Morehead, KY) - Kentucky State Police at Post 8 Morehead announce the final traffic and criminal activity report for February 2014. During February, Post 8 personnel issued 1,750 total citations. Of those citations, 22 were for DUI, 139 were for Speeding, 126 for No Seat Belt, and 8 for Child Restraint. In addition, there were 1,530 Vehicle Inspections and 388 Courtesy Notices issued. Post 8 also investigated 64 Traffic Collisions. Of those collisions two were fatal collisions in which the victim was not wearing a seat belt. These collisions occurred in Rowan County and Wolfe County. Post 8 personnel also investigated 1,031 Complaints. A total of 57 Criminal Cases were opened and 238 Criminal Arrests were made for the month of February 2014.

Additionally, Captain Brian Bowling, Commander of the Kentucky State Police at Morehead, announces that Troopers of the Morehead Post will be conducting Safety Checkpoints in addition to Moving Patrols throughout the Post 8 area during the entire month of March as well the remainder of the year 2014. Motorists are urged to be cautious and obey reduced speeds through road constructions.

Kentucky State Police kicks off an enforcement campaign called Operation R.A.I.D. (Remove Aggressive, Impaired and Distracted drivers from Kentucky Roadways). The effort was developed by KSP Commanders across the state to target driving behaviors that cause most crashes in Kentucky. Operation R.A.I.D. began March 1, 2014 and runs through March 15, 2014. Also during the month of March, Post 8 personnel will also place a special emphasis on Occupant Protection enforcement.

This concentrated enforcement effort will utilize Troopers and Detectives assigned to and working the Morehead post area. Members of the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) will also be utilized. They will focus on enforcing violations of Speeding, No Seat Belt, Child Restraint, Impaired Driving Laws, and Texting While Driving, as well as other violations of the Traffic Laws of Kentucky.
