Update: Human Remains Located in Rowan County

Date of News Release: 08/15/2014

(Morehead, KY) - On August 15, 2014, Kentucky State Police Morehead received positive identification of the remains discovered in Rowan County, on August 3, 2014. Dental records confirm the remains belong to Thomas Ray James from Grosse Point Park, Michigan. Mr. James was reported missing in 2004 from Grosse Point Park, Michigan. At the time of his disappearance Mr. James was 50 years old. Several weeks after Mr. James was reported missing his vehicle was located at the rest area in Rowan County. An extensive search was conducted at the time with no results. No foul play is suspected and the case remains under investigation by Detective Toby Gardner.

Update: Human Remains Located in Rowan County

Date of News Release: 08/04/2014

(Morehead, KY) - On Monday August 4, 2014 Kentucky State Police returned to the scene of the location where human remains were located on August 3, 2014. Kentucky State Police with assistance from the Jefferson County Coroner's office were able to locate additional bones believed to be from the same individual that was located last date. The additional bones, along with the skull have been sent to the State Medical Examiner's office in Frankfort for identification and examination. The case remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police Morehead.

Human Remains Located in Rowan County

Date of News Release: 08/04/2014

(Morehead, KY) - On Sunday, August 3, 2014 at 8:45 p.m. Kentucky State Police in Morehead received information that human remains had been discovered in the Daniel Boone National Forest off KY799 in northern Rowan County. A human skull and various articles of clothing were located by Kentucky State Police, Post 8 Troopers. The incident remains under investigation by Detective Toby Gardner.
