Man Charged in Pursuit

(Barbourville, Ky.) -- Kentucky State Police Post 10 in Harlan arrested a Knox County man Sunday evening following a pursuit in the corporate limits of Barbourville.
Trooper Wayne Hensley initiated a traffic stop on a 2003 Toyota Corolla on U.S. Highway 25E for an expired registration plate. Trooper Hensley approached the vehicle to make contact with the driver and the operator fled in the vehicle. Trooper Hensley initiated his emergency equipment and pursued the vehicle through downtown Barbourville at a slow rate of speed. The vehicle continued through town and made its way back to U.S. Highway 25E and continued southbound; Trooper Kelley Farris joined in the pursuit. As troopers Hensley and Farris attempted to box the vehicle in, the operator intentionally struck Trooper Hensley's vehicle. The suspect continued onto U.S. Highway 25E and increased his speed. While traveling down U.S. Highway 25E, as the troopers were trying to box the vehicle in again, the operator of the Corolla intentionally hit Trooper Hensley's patrol car two additional times and struck Trooper Farris' cruiser twice.
The pursuit continued into the parking lot of Taco Bell where the suspect made a turn in an attempt to strike Trooper Farris' cruiser again. Fortunately, the units were able to stop the vehicle by blocking him in, ending the pursuit. No one was injured in this incident.
Jack A. Rose, age 49 of Barbourville was arrested and charged with the following: Fleeing or Evading Police in Motor Vehicle, 1st degree, two counts of Wanton Endangerment of Police Officer , 1st degree, two counts of Criminal Mischief, 1st Degree, two counts of Criminal Mischief, 3rd Degree, Operating Motor Vehicle Under the Influence-Aggravated Circumstances, Carless Driving, Expired Operator's License, Possession of Open Alcoholic Beverage Container in Motor Vehicle, Failure to Signal, three counts of Disregarding a Stop Sign, two counts of Disregarding a Traffic Control Device, Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct, and several other traffic charges.
Incident is being investigated by Trooper Wayne Hensley. He was assisted by troopers Kelley Farris, Chad Gregory, Jonathan Carlock and Frank Russell. KSP sergeants James Sandlin and Jason Joseph also assisted at the scene.
