Victim of Perry County Collision, Dies

(Hazard, KY) - A Harlan County man, who suffered critical injuries during a January 16 collision in Perry County, has died. Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard is currently investigating the two vehicle collision which occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m., on Highway 699 in the Cornettsville community.
Troopers responded to the scene, where they were assisted by Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Perry County Ambulance, and Cornettsville Fire Department. It was initially determined that Scottie Cornett, age 40 of Cumberland, KY, was traveling eastbound on HWY 699, when he lost control of his 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt. While attempting to regain control of the vehicle, Scottie Cornett struck a 1994 Peterbilt driven by 59 year old Terry Arnold of Falmouth, KY. Cornett was ejected from the vehicle and thrown over an embankment. Scottie Cornett was transported to Hazard ARH, before being air lifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained in the collision. Terry Arnold was not injured.
On Sunday, January 18, KSP Post 13 was advised that Scottie Cornett had died as a result of the injuries he received in the collision. This incident remains under investigation by Tpr. Brandon Thomas with KSP Post 13.
