Motorcycle Fatality in Leslie County

(Cutshin, KY) - A two vehicle collision in Leslie County yesterday resulted in one man's death. Troopers with Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard responded to the collision on Highway 699 in the Cutshin community of Leslie County. The crash occurred around 5:00 p.m., and involved a motorcycle and a passenger truck.
It was initially determined that a 2001 Harley Davidson operated by 43 year old Gerald Wegford of Smilax, KY, was traveling northbound on Highway 699 when the vehicle entered a curve and crossed into the southbound lane. The motorcycle collided with a 2006 Ford F-250 being driven by 31 year old Stephanie Turnmire. The Leslie County Coroner pronounced Gerald Wegford deceased at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of this collision.
Impairment does not appear to be a contributing factor in this crash, though toxicology results are pending on both drivers. No autopsy was requested and will not be conducted. Trooper Josh Richardson with KSP Post 13 is investigation this incident.
