Plane Crashes in Perry County

(Hazard, KY) - A plane crashed in the Lower Lost Creek community of Perry County this evening (05/21/2015), leaving at least one person dead. Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard was contacted by the Perry County 911 office just before 7:00 p.m., advising that they'd received several calls of a possible plane crash near Silas Bottom Road. Troopers responded to the scene along with members of Perry County Sheriff's Department, Perry County Ambulance, and several local rescue squads. The wreckage of what appeared to be a smaller model airplane was located off of Highway 2446, also known as Lost Creek Road. There appears to be at least on deceased victim, but no identification has been made at this time. Also, positive identification of the plane has not been made due to damage from the collision.

Contact has been made with officials with both the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board concerning this incident. Representatives with both offices will be arriving at the scene to initiate an investigation, sometime tomorrow morning or afternoon. KSP personnel will be securing the crash scene pending their arrival.
