KSP involved in Lyon County Shooting

(Eddyville, KY.) – During the early morning hours on Saturday May 9, 2015 the Kentucky State Police executed a search warrant at a residence on Bryson Road, in Eddyville, KY. Trooper's knocked on the door, identified themselves as police officers and made their presence known. John C. Smith, 51 of Eddyville, came to the door and pointed a handgun and a laser pointing device at the Troopers. After Mr. Smith refused several verbal commands to drop his weapon he was shot by a Trooper and was struck in the abdomen area. Mr. Smith was transported by the Lyon County EMS to Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, KY where he has undergone surgery for his injury and is recovering in ICU.
KSP recovered approximately 10 ounces of Chrystal Meth, with a street value of $18,000 from the residence along with several guns, and a large amount of cash. Mr. Smith will be charged with Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Degree (2nd offense) methamphetamine more than 2 grams with a firearm enhancement, Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Patricia A. Kilgore, 41 of Eddyville was charged with Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Degree (1st offense) methamphetamine more than 2 grams with a firearm enhancement, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Kilgore was lodged at the Caldwell County Jail.
Detective Donald Bowman continues his drug investigation and Detective Lieutenant Trent Weaver along with Lieutenants from two other KSP posts are continuing their investigation into the Trooper involved shooting. KSP was assisted on the scene by the Eddyville Police Department, Lyon County Sheriff's Office, and the Marshall County Sherriff's Office.
