Post 2 Receives Two New Troopers

Madisonville, KY. - The Kentucky State Police Post 2 Madisonville would like to welcome two new troopers to their ranks. A total of 69 new troopers graduated from the Kentucky State Police Academy in Frankfort on Friday, January 16, 2015. Their addition to the force brings the agency’s strength to a total of 910 troopers serving the citizens of the Commonwealth.

  • Trooper Eric M. Browning, 35, Beaver Dam, KY - is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Trooper Browning is assigned to Hopkins County.
  • Trooper Jonathan C. Johnson, 38, Franklin, KY - Prior to joining the KSP, he worked for the Franklin (KY) Police Department. Trooper Johnson is assigned to Christian County.

The new troopers are part of the agency's 92nd cadet class. They started a 23-week training cycle on August 3, 2014 in a class that consisted of 110 cadets. Forty-one resigned during the weeks of mental and physical challenges that followed.

The training included more than 1,000 hours of classroom and field study in subjects such as constitutional law, juvenile and traffic law, use of force, weapons training, defensive tactics, first aid, high speed vehicle pursuit, criminal investigation, computer literacy, hostage negotiations, evidence collection, radio procedures, search and seizure, crash investigation, drug identification, traffic control, crowd control, armed robbery response, land navigation, electronic crimes, sex crimes, hate crimes, domestic violence, bomb threats and hazardous materials.

The new troopers will undergo an extensive field-training period with experienced troopers for approximately eight weeks. After the field-training period, they will begin their respective assignments.
