Single-Vehicle Injury-Collision Involving ATV

Greenville, KY (Muhlenberg County) - The Kentucky State Police investigated a single-vehicle, injury-collision that occurred on KY 853, approximately five miles south of Greenville, on Saturday, August 8, at 3:25 p.m.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Johnny Lanier, 55, Greenville, was operating a 2005 Polaris Sportsman ATV southbound on KY 853. As he was negotiating a curve, the ATV experienced a mechanical issue, causing Mr. Lanier to lose control. The ATV exited the left side of the roadway and struck a culvert. The ATV overturned and came to rest on top of Mr. Lanier.

Mr. Lanier was flown by PHI Air Medical to the Vanderbilt Medical Center for treatment. He was not wearing a helmet.

Trooper First Class Jerry Knight investigated the collision. The Muhlenberg County Sheriff's Department, the Greenville Fire Department, and Muhlenberg County EMS assisted at the scene.
