Two-Vehicle Fatality Collision On US 62

Princeton, KY (Caldwell County) - The Kentucky State Police is investigating a two vehicle, fatality collision that occurred on US 62, approximately one mile west of Princeton, on Monday, August 17, at 3:21 p.m.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Paula Brown, 50, Fredonia, KY, was operating a 2000 Jeep Cherokee, pulled over onto the emergency strip of the eastbound lane of US 62 West. Mrs. Brown, a United States Postal Carrier, was stopped in the emergency strip delivering mail in front of 11000 US 62 West. Diana Sams, 69, of Fredonia, KY, was operating a 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe, eastbound on US 62 West.

Mrs. Sams vehicle exited the eastbound shoulder of the roadway into the emergency strip, striking the rear of Mrs. Brown's vehicle. The impact of the collision caused Mrs. Brown's vehicle to exit the eastbound shoulder of the roadway into a ditch. Mrs. Brown's vehicle came to final rest in a ditch beside the eastbound lane of travel. Mrs. Sams vehicle continued traveling east in the emergency strip along the eastbound shoulder and came to final rest partially in the eastbound emergency strip.

Mrs. Brown was transported by ambulance to Caldwell County Medical Center, and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. Mrs. Brown was not wearing a seatbelt. Mrs. Sams was treated at the Caldwell County Medical Center for minor injuries and released. Mrs. Sams was wearing a seatbelt.

Trooper Ben Sawyer is continuing the investigation. The Caldwell County Sheriff's Department, the Princeton Police Department, the Princeton Fire Department, Caldwell County EMS, and the Caldwell County Coroner's Office assisted at the scene.
