Two Vehicle Injury Collision on WKP

Central City, KY (Muhlenberg County) - The Kentucky State Police is investigating a two-vehicle, injury-collision that occurred on the Western Kentucky Parkway, at approximately the 55 mile-marker, on Tuesday, September 29 at 6:59 a.m.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Jessica Simpson, 33, Murray, KY, was operating a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis eastbound on the WKP. Hannah Diehl was operating a 2007 Jeep Liberty westbound on the WKP.
As Simpson was traveling eastbound, she lost control of the vehicle on the wet roadway. The vehicle exited the left shoulder and traveled through the grass median. It entered the westbound lanes and struck Diehl's vehicle in a head-on manner. Both vehicles struck a guardrail before coming to rest partially in the westbound lanes.
Simpson had to be extricated from the vehicle by mechanical means. She was transported via ambulance to Baptist Health Madisonville for treatment. Diehl was transported via ambulance to Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital for treatment. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
The westbound lanes were closed until approximately 8:17 a.m., as crews worked to remove the vehicles and debris from the scene.
Trooper First Class Jerrod Hearld is investigating the collision. The Central City Police Department, Central City Fire & Rescue, and Muhlenberg County EMS assisted at the scene.
