Single Vehicle Fatality Collision on Pennyrile Parkway

Hopkinsville, KY (Christian County) - The Kentucky State Police is investigating a single-vehicle, fatality-collision that occurred on the Edward T. Breathitt Pennyrile Parkway, at approximately the 11 mile-marker, on Monday, October 12, at 6:05 a.m.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Robert L. Mayhugh, 40, Paducah, KY, was operating a 2013 Ford Edge southbound on the parkway.

As Mr. Mayhugh was traveling southbound, he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle exited the left shoulder and traveled into the grass median where it struck a guardrail. It became airborne and struck a concrete bridge pier. The vehicle came to rest on its top in the passing lane of the southbound lanes of the parkway.

Mr. Mayhugh was transported via ambulance to the Jennie Stuart Medical Center for treatment. He was in the process of being flown to Vanderbilt when he was diverted to the Gateway Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. Mr. Mayhugh was wearing a seatbelt.

Trooper First Class Jim McArthur is investigating the collision. The Christian County Sheriff's Department, the Hopkinsville Police Department, the Hopkinsville Fire Department, and Hopkinsville/Christian County EMS assisted at the scene.
