Update: KSP Conducting Investigation of Fatal Structure Fire

Dawson Springs, KY (Hopkins County) - After conferring with the State Medical Examiner's Office in Louisville, an autopsy will not be performed on the deceased. Instead, the Hopkins County Coroner, Dennis Mayfield, will perform an examination at the State Medical Examiner's Office in Madisonville.

Hopkins County Central Dispatch received a call of a residential fire at approximately 10:49 p.m., on Thursday, November 19. Several area fire departments responded to the scene. Inside the residence, investigators located one victim, Kathy M. Westerman, 57, of Dawson Springs. No one else was at the residence at the time of the fire and no other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the KSP. The St. Charles Fire Department, the Charleston Fire Department, the Earlington Fire Department, the Hopkins County Sheriff's Department, Medical Center Ambulance Service, and the Hopkins County Coroner's Office assisted at the scene.

KSP Conducting Investigation of Fatal Structure Fire

Dawson Springs, KY (Hopkins County) - The Kentucky State Police is investigating a fire that resulted in the death of one individual last night, November 19, in Hopkins County.

On Thursday, November 19, at approximately 11:37 p.m., the KSP Post 2 Madisonville was contacted by the Hopkins County Sheriff's Department in reference to a structure fire that occurred at a residence located in the 300 block of Crabtree Loop.

Investigators located one subject deceased inside the residence. The deceased has been identified as Kathy M. Westerman, 57, of Dawson Springs. An autopsy is scheduled for today, November 20, at the State Medical Examiner's Office in Louisville. Foul play is not suspected.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the KSP.
