Date of News Release: 02/02/2015
(Winchester, KY.) – The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post, in conjunction with personnel from KSP Post 12, KSP Canine Section, CVE Region 5, and the Clark County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic safety checkpoint on US 60 in Clark County over the weekend.
The traffic safety checkpoint that was held near the entrance of the Sky-Vue Twin Drive-In theater on Lexington Road, began at 11:00 pm on Saturday, January 31st and concluded at 3:00 am on Sunday, February 1st. During the four hour traffic safety checkpoint, there were a total of 76 citations issued, which included five DUI arrests, eleven drug related charges, two people arrested on warrants, and one alcohol intoxication arrest. There were also three people charged with failing to wear a seat belt, four drivers charged with driving without a driver's license, and two open alcohol container violations. The checkpoint location was picked based on several factors, which includes the application of KSP's Data Driven Enforcement Program (DDEP) and the high visibility that the location offers from both directions of travel, which ensured the safety of both the public and police that were participating.
These checkpoints are conducted in an effort to enforce the traffic laws of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Special attention is given to occupant protection, sobriety, insurance, license, and registration violations.
