Stanton Man Killed in a Collision on Black Creek Road

(Clay City, KY) -- On January 24, 2015 at 12:03 A.M. Kentucky State Police was contacted by Powell County Dispatch requesting assistance on a single vehicle injury collision on Black Creek Road (KY 11) north of Clay City. Trooper Joseph Zalone, Powell County Sheriff Deputy Scott, Stanton Police Department Officer Crabtree, Powell County Coroner Hondo Hearne, Powell County EMS, and Clay City Fire Department responded to the scene. Upon arrival Tyler S. Brewer, 23 of Stanton was located in the vehicle and pronounced deceased by Powell County Coroner Hondo Hearne. Jacob C. McCoy, 21 of Stanton and Stefan C. Huff, 24 of Winchester were also occupants of the vehicle. Mr. Huff was transported to Clark Regional Hospital in Winchester where he was treated and released. Mr. McCoy was transported to Clark Regional Hospital and was later transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington where he is listed in critical condition at this time. Through the course of the investigation it was determined that the vehicle, a 2004 Ford pick-up, was traveling north on Black Creek Road, crossed the center line, exited the left shoulder of the roadway and struck an embankment, causing the vehicle to overturn. The collision remains under investigation by Trooper Joseph Zalone.
