KSP Trooper Involved Shooting in Wolfe County

(Pine Ridge, KY) – On May 4, 2015 at 931 p.m. KSP Post 8 Morehead received a call of an armed subject on KY 715 in the Pine Ridge community of Wolfe County. Sergeant Jeff Crase, Trooper Joe Zalone, and Trooper Luke Goodwin responded to the scene and located Matthew D. Preston, 39, of Cincinnati, OH armed with a handgun. Troopers gave Preston verbal commands to drop the firearm but he refused to do so. Preston then fired in the Troopers direction. At that time, Troopers returned fire striking Preston. Preston was transported from the scene by Wolfe County EMS to Kentucky River Medical Center in Jackson. Preston was later airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries. Preston has been charged with 2 counts of Attempted Murder (Police Officer) and will be lodged when released from the hospital. The incident remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police in Morehead.
