KSP Investigates Attempted Murder in Floyd County

(Hi Hat, KY) - During the afternoon hours on Tuesday, December 08, 2015, Troopers with Kentucky State Police Post 09, Pikeville, responded to the Hi Hat community of Floyd County in regards to a stabbing complaint.

Troopers at the scene located Tina Sturgill, 47, with multiple stab wounds outside of a residence. The victim's husband, Thurston Sturgill, 51, of Hi Hat, was identified as being a suspect. Post 9 issued a notification to surrounding police agencies to be on the lookout for Sturgill. Chief Tyrone Fields with Whitesburg Police Department located Sturgill at a family member's residence in the Whitesburg community of Letcher County. Chief Fields detained Sturgill until KSP Troopers arrived. Post 09 Detective Tony Tackett charged Sturgill with Attempted Murder, and he was lodged in the Floyd County Detention Center. The investigation is ongoing by Detective Tackett.
