Date of News Release: 07/03/2016
Jackson, KY (July 3, 2016) - A Breathitt County man was found dead in the parking lot of the Jackson Inn Motel early Sunday morning. Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard received a call around 5:50 a.m., advising that a man had been found lying in the parking lot of the motel, with an apparent laceration to his throat, and that he did not appear to be breathing. Captain Elvis Noble and Sergeant John Hollon with the Jackson Police Department were the first officers to arrive on the scene. They located the victim who appeared to be deceased. They then contacted KSP for investigative assistance. Troopers and Detectives were dispatched to the Jackson Inn.
Investigators initially determined the victim, 29 year old, Charles N. Costello of Jackson, had been in a dispute in the parking lot of the Jackson Inn with Willie Josh Napier, 31, of Clayhole. During the conflict, Costello received an apparent stab wound to the throat. Breathitt County Coroner George Griffith pronounced Costello deceased at the scene. Officers searched the area for Willie Josh Napier but were unable to locate him. It is unknown if he left on foot or in a vehicle. Willie Josh Napier's whereabouts remain unknown at this time and he should be considered armed and dangerous. Detectives have yet to determine why Costello and Napier were at the Jackson Inn, or the cause of their disagreement.
Detective Jeff Browning with KSP Post 13 is in charge of this investigation and is currently in the process of obtaining an arrest warrant on Napier for one count of Murder. An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday morning at the State Medical Examiner's Office in Frankfort. If anyone has any information concerning the location of Willie Josh Napier they are urged to contact KSP Post 13 at 606-435-6069.
