Breathitt County Couple Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash

Hazard, KY (December 5, 2016) - A two vehicle crash on Kentucky Highway 15 claimed the lives of a Breathitt County couple last Saturday evening. At around 5:23 p.m., on December 3, Troopers with Kentucky State Police were called to the Kragan area of Breathitt County on KY 15, approximately 5 miles south of Jackson, in response to the crash. Breathitt County EMS also assisted at the scene.

The initial investigation of this collision determined that a silver 2008 Honda CRV, driven by 59 year old Leon Moore of Whick, was traveling south on KY 15, when the vehicle crossed into the northbound lane and collided with a 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck. Leon Moore and his wife Peggy Moore, age 60 of Whick, were pronounced deceased at the scene by Breathitt County Coroner George Griffith. The driver of the pickup truck, 42 year old Aaron Worley of Georgetown, KY, was air-lifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center, where he remains in stable condition.

At this time, the cause of this collision remains unknown. Seatbelts were in use by all occupants in the two vehicles involved. Results of toxicology samples for both drivers, which are obtained during fatal collision investigations, are pending, and no autopsy will be performed.
