Update: KSP Conducting Shooting Investigation

White Plains, KY (Hopkins County) - On Monday, January 25, 2016, at approximately 2:05 p.m., the juvenile victim succumbed to their injury and passed.

Through the course of the investigation, KSP Detectives determined that two, 14-year-olds where present when one of them was handling a firearm. It appears that the one who was handling the firearm accidently shot themself. Foul play is not suspected. The investigation is continuing by the KSP.

KSP Conducting Shooting Investigation

White Plains, KY (Hopkins County) - The Kentucky State Police is currently investigating a shooting that has injured a juvenile.

On Monday, January 25, at approximately 8:59 a.m., the Kentucky State Police Post 2 Madisonville was contacted by the Hopkins County Sheriff's Department in reference to a shooting that occurred at a residence on Farmers Crossing Road in White Plains.

The preliminary investigation revealed that two juveniles were at the residence when one of them was handling a firearm and it discharged. One of the juveniles was struck. The victim was flown from the scene and transported to St. Mary's in Evansville, IN for treatment.

KSP Detective Billy Sumner is continuing the investigation.

KSP Post 2 units, the Hopkins County Sheriff's Department, and Medical Center Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.
