Providence Man Charged with Drug & Firearm Offenses

Providence, KY (Webster County) - The Kentucky State Police has charged a Providence man with drug=related and firearm offenses after conducting a traffic stop.
On Sunday, February 28, at approximately 11:22 p.m., Trooper Cody Kromer observed James L. Thomas, 55, Providence, KY, operating a Nissan passenger car on North Broadway in a reckless manner by making a u-turn and crossing the center line.
During the course of the traffic stop, Tpr. Kromer determined that Thomas was under the influence of a controlled substance. A search of his person revealed a plastic bag containing a crystal substance, believed to be methamphetamine. During a search of the vehicle, a loaded, semi-automatic pistol was located under the driver's seat. Thomas was arrested without incident.
Thomas was lodged in the Webster County Detention Center and charged with the following offenses:
- Reckless Driving
- DUI 2nd Offense
- Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree 2nd Offense - Meth (Firearm Enhanced)
- Possession of Handgun by a Convicted Felon
