Princeton, KY. (Caldwell County) - The Kentucky State Police investigated a two vehicle collision on KY 1119 at the intersection of Calvert Road on Thursday, April 30, 2015, at 3:17 p.m..
The preliminary investigation revealed that Travis Hale, 23, of Princeton, KY was operating a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado Pickup westbound on KY 1119, approaching the intersection of Calvert Road. Rose Carner, 72, of Fredonia, KY was operating a 2003 Freightliner 66 Passenger School Bus on KY 1119 after making a left turn from Calvert Road onto the westbound lane of KY 1119. As Mr. Hale exited the curve on KY 1119 at the two mile-marker, Mr. Hale lost control of his vehicle and the front right tire exited the right westbound shoulder of the roadway. Mr. Hale was unable to regain control of the vehicle, and the impact with the ditch caused his vehicle to overturn onto it top. The front bumper of Mr. Hale's vehicle then struck the middle right side of the Caldwell County School Bus being operated by Mrs. Carner. Mr. Hale's vehicle came to final rest partially in a ditch and blocking the westbound lane of travel facing south. Mrs. Carner's school bus came to final rest in both lanes of KY 1119, facing northwest.
Mr. Hale was transported from the scene by Air Evac Lifeteam helicopter to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. School Bus Monitor Sandra Faughn, and a three year-old male were also passengers in the school bus and were uninjured.
The collision is under investigation by Trooper Ben Sawyer. Trooper Sawyer was assisted by the scene by Caldwell County Sheriff's Department, the Princeton Fire Department, and Caldwell County EMS.
