Traffic Safety Checkpoint Leads to Pursuit and Arrest in Edmonson County

(Brownsville, KY) - Last night (02/20/2016) at approx. 8:47 pm the Kentucky State Police Post 3 Bowling Green was conducting a traffic safety checkpoint along with the Edmonson County Sheriff's Department and the Brownsville Police Department at the intersection of KY 259 and KY 70 West in Edmonson County.
While doing so contact was made with Jason Dague (34) of Leitchfield who was operating a 1992 Chevrolet pick-up. During the process of checking Dague's information he fled the checkpoint in his vehicle and continued northbound on KY 259 into Grayson County. The pursuit ended on Saint Anthony Road where a Trooper from Post 4 Elizabethtown was set up with a tire deflation device which was struck by Dague. The spike strip was successful and the tires of Dague's vehicle deflated where he continued a short distance further before running off the roadway and stopping in a ditch.
Dague then fled the scene on foot where he was apprehended a short distance later and taken into custody where it was discovered that he was entered as a Fugitive for a Parole Violation warrant out of Indiana. Also during the investigation Dague was found to be under the influence and in possession of suspected Methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. There was a female passenger in the vehicle who was not arrested or injured in the pursuit.
Dague was arrested and lodged in the Hart County Jail and has been charged with:
- Fugitive From Another State
- Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree (Motor Vehicle)
- Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree (On Foot)
- Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs 1st Offense
- Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree
- Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree (Police Officer)
- Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree, 1st Offense (Methamphetamine)
- Drug Paraphernalia Possession
- Resisting Arrest
- Speeding 26 MPH of More
- Improper Passing
- Failure to Produce Insurance Card
The investigation is still ongoing and being led by Trooper First Class Chris Newkirk. He was assisted by Edmonson County Sheriff's Department, Brownsville Police Department, Grayson County Sheriff's Department and KSP Post 4 Elizabethtown.
