Kentucky State Police Investigating Injury Accident in Carroll County

Carrollton, Ky. (October 13, 2016) - The Kentucky State Police at Post 5 Campbellsburg is investigating an injury accident at the 50 mile marker of interstate 71 northbound.
At approximately 5:30 this morning dispatchers with the Kentucky State Police Post 5 Campbellsburg received a call from Carroll County Dispatch advising of an injury accident involving two tractor trailers. The accident occurred at the 50 mile marker of I-71 northbound in Carroll County. A FedEx tractor trailer overturned in the roadway and was struck by a second tractor trailer. The driver of the FedEx truck sustained non-life threatening injuries and the driver of the second tractor trailer suffered no injuries.
The accident has closed both lanes of I-71 northbound for an indeterminate amount of time. Motorists are being detoured off I-71 at exit 44 to travel US 42 and KY highway 1039 to reenter the interstate at exit 55.
The FedEx truck was marked as transporting hazardous materials and is leaking at this time. Emergency management has been notified and is at the scene. Kentucky State Police Troopers and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers are being assisted on scene by Carroll County EMS and Ghent Fire Department.
The accident remains under investigation and the Kentucky State Police will update with further information on the lane closure and the hazardous materials.
