December Activity with January Checkpoint

(Morehead, KY) - Kentucky State Police at Post 8 Morehead announce the final traffic and criminal activity report for December 2015. During December Post 8 personnel issued 2,402 total citations. Of those citations, 40 were for DUI, 326 were for Speeding, 178 for No Seat Belt, and 17 for Child Restraint. In addition, there were 1,968 Vehicle Inspections and 569 Courtesy Notices issued. Post 8 also investigated 42 Traffic Collisions, of which one was a fatal collision in Wolfe County. Post 8 personnel also investigated 1,147 Complaints. A total of 72 Criminal Cases were opened and 273 Criminal Arrests were made for the month of December 2014.

During the year of 2015 Post 8 personnel issued 26,449 total citations. Of those citations 305 were for DUI, 3,628 were for Speeding, 2,194 for No Seat Belt, and 211 were for Child Restraint. In addition, there were 21,784 Vehicle Inspections and 4,642 Courtesy Notices Issued. Post 8 also investigated 605 Traffic Collisions and investigated 13,817 complaints. A total of 859 Criminal Cases were opened and 3,327 Criminal Arrest were made for the year.

Additionally, Captain Kenneth K. Bowman, Commander of the Kentucky State Police at Morehead, announces that Troopers of the Morehead Post will be conducting Safety Checkpoints in addition to Moving Patrols throughout the Post 8 area during the entire month of January as well the remainder of the year 2016. Motorists are urged to be cautious and obey reduced speeds through road construction zones.

This concentrated enforcement effort will utilize Troopers and Detectives assigned to and working the Morehead post area. Members of the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) will also be utilized. They will focus on enforcing violations of Speeding, No Seat Belt, Child Restraint, Impaired Driving Laws, and Texting While Driving, as well as other violations of the Traffic Laws of Kentucky.
