Update: US 23 Closure in Ivel

Date of News Release: 05/13/2016

(Ivel, KY) – The southbound lane of US23 near the rock slide is now open, allowing both north and southbound traffic to pass using the southbound lane. Highway Department crews remain at the location and are working to clear all debris, and ensure the roadway is safe to travel. Motorists can still expect delays in the area, and are encouraged to use caution when traveling this section of US23.

(Ivel, KY) –Kentucky State Police Post 09 is advising the motoring public of a rockslide blocking all lanes of US23 at Ivel near Davidson Memorial Cemetery in Floyd County. Detour signs are visible rerouting all traffic through KY1426, Prater Creek. The lanes will be reopened once the roadway is deemed safe. More information with a timeframe will be released pending consultation with the Highway Department.

(Ivel, KY) –. Work continues along this portion of US23 and all lanes of the roadway will remain closed until further notice. The roadway is not expected to reopen during the overnight hours. Motorists are encouraged to remain using the detour along KY1426, Prater Creek, and drivers should adjust their drive time accordingly. The Department of Highways, Kentucky State Police, Floyd County Sheriff’s Department, Betsy Layne and Allen Fire Departments are monitoring the ongoing conditions along this section of US23.
