Kentucky State Police Investigates an Officer Involved Shooting

Lexington, Ky. (April 12, 2017) –An officer with the Lexington Police Department has been involved in an officer-involved shooting.
At approximately 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, an officer patrolling the area of Stanton Way initiated an investigation of a suspicious vehicle, a Toyota 4Runner, behind La Quinta Inn. During the course of his investigation the officer discharged his firearm, striking the suspect.
The suspect is a 26-year-old white male from Lexington. He was transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries. No other people were in the vehicle and the officer was not injured.
The officer involved is a three-year veteran of the Lexington Police Department. He was wearing a body camera, and video of the incident will be reviewed by investigators and the Commonwealth’s Attorney office.
This incident is being investigated by the Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team. In accordance with the department’s policy regarding post-shooting investigations, the Lexington Police Public Integrity Unit will conduct an internal review of the incident. The officer has been placed on administrative leave per department policy.
