Letcher County Business Robbed at Gunpoint - KSP Post 13 is investigating

MAYKING, Ky. (June 12, 2017) – An armed robber surprised an employee at a Dollar General Store as she was taking out trash Monday morning. Kentucky State Police Post 13 received a call at 7:26 a.m. this morning advising of the robbery at the Dollar General in the Mayking community of Letcher County. Trooper Adam Hall initially responded to the scene, and was later assisted by Tpr. Branden Watts and Detective Josh Huff.
Employees at the store advised that one of the workers was taking trash outside of the store, when a male subject, who was dressed completely in black and wearing a ski mask, produced a firearm and ordered her back into the store. Once inside, the man demanded money. The employee complied with his demands, and handed over cash from the register and safe. The man then fled the store through a rear door. The employee was unable to advise his direction of travel or whether or not he left on foot or in a vehicle. The store employee was not injured during this incident, but was transported to Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital for anxiety related issues.
The male perpetrator is described as being approximately 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighing around 250 pounds, wearing all black clothing.
