KSP Investigating Fatal Collision in Leslie County

Hyden, Ky. (August 21st, 2017) – The Kentucky State Police, Hazard Post, is investigating a fatal collision involving a vehicle and two pedestrians.

On August 21, 2017, in the early afternoon hours, Troopers from Kentucky State Police, Hazard Post, responded to a collision in downtown Hyden. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2001 Lincoln LS passenger car operated by Alyssa Noble was traveling south on Main Street. The vehicle crossed the center line and traveled down Sycamore Street striking a utility pole and two females on the sidewalk. Mackenzie P. Hays, 23, of Hazard, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Rhonda Belcher, 41, of Wooton was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Hospital. The driver, Alyssa Noble, 38, of Hyden was transported to Holston-Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tn.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by Post 13 collision reconstructionist, Trooper Scott Caudill.
