Adair County man arrested following pursuit

Columbia, KY(May 22, 2017) – On Saturday, May 21st, 2017, 27-year-old Richard Baldwin, of Columbia, was charged with Speeding 26 miles per hour over or greater, DUI 1st Degree ( Aggravated Circumstances), Reckless Driving, Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree, Fleeing or Evading Police 2nd Degree, Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree, Driving on a Suspended License and Assault 3rd Degree (Police). Baldwin was charged following a pursuit that began at approximately 11:02 PM CST on US 61, south of Columbia, when Baldwin's Chevy pickup truck was clocked at 96 mph in a 55 mph speed limit. Baldwin's vehicle struck a State Police car as the pursuit continued before Baldwin wrecked behind a local business in the limits of Columbia, fled on foot and was later apprehended after resisting arrest.
Baldwin was transported to TJ Sampson Hospital and later transported to UK Medical Center to be treated for injuries sustained in the pursuit and during the altercation. The investigation is ongoing.
