Mayfield, Ky. (January 04, 2017) - On January 4, 2017, at approximately 12:13 pm, Detectives with the Kentucky State Police were asked to respond to a field near Lindsay Lane in Trigg County.
Initially, the Trigg County Sheriff's Office responded to a residence on Caledonia Road in reference to a burglary in progress. When deputies arrived multiple individuals fled the scene, both on foot and in a vehicle. Trigg County Sheriff's Deputy David Tomlinson pursued the subjects and detained one of the individuals. Units then began searching for the other individuals that had fled the scene. As the search continued, units from the Cadiz Police Department and the Kentucky State Police joined the search for the suspects.
Cadiz Police Department Sergeant Scott Brown located a subject that matched the description of one of the subjects that fled from the burglary in a field near Lindsay Lane.
Initial investigation shows that Michael Mosby, 42, of Hopkinsville, KY exited a thicket in the back of the field as Sgt. Brown approached.
Mosby was armed with a handgun and had it pointed at himself. Mosby fired one round striking himself in the side of the head. Other units arrived on scene and Sgt. Brown and those units administered first aid until medical care could arrive. Mosby was transported by life flight to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, TN with life threatening injuries.
Sgt. Brown is equipped with an issued body camera and it captured the entire incident. The investigation is ongoing by Detective Michael Robichaud.
