KSP Requests Assistance in Locating Escapee

Madisonville , KY.(Hopkins County) – A traffic stop conducted by Kentucky State Police resulted in the arrest of two Mortons Gap men.

On June 28, 2017, at 2:17 P.M., Trooper Jon McGehee, with the Kentucky State Police, conducted a traffic stop on a 1998 Chevrolet Pickup Truck on Lamb Road, approximately 1 mile north of Madisonville city limits. The traffic stop was initiated for registration violations. The vehicle was being operated by the owner, James L Sloan, Age 55 of Mortons Gap. After conducting field sobriety test, it was determined that Mr. Sloan was impaired, and was placed under arrest. During the course of the investigation, methamphetamine, prescription controlled substances and items used to ingest controlled substances were located. In addition to being in possession of drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine, the passenger, Rodger J Gray, Age 50 of Mortons Gap, was additionally found to be in possession of an open alcoholic beverage container. Both individuals were lodged at the Hopkins County Detention Center. Trooper Stu Recke assisted with the traffic stop.

Mr. Sloan was charged with the following:

  • No Registration Plate
  • No Registration Receipt
  • Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence 1st Offense
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense Methamphetamine
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance 2nd Degree

Mr. Gray was charged with the following:

  • Possession of an Open Alcoholic Beverage Container in Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense Methamphetamine
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
