Date of News Release: 8/22/2017
LOUISVILLE, KY (August 21st, 2017)- Kentucky State Police Troopers worked a vehicle collision involving a Semi Tractor and Trailer and the Fern Valley Road bridge overpass. On August 21, 2017 at approximately 12:45 A.M. EDST, KSP Post 4 and Post 3 started receiving calls from several civilians pertaining to Social Media Posts concerning a female that was stating that she was in a Semi Tractor and Trailer Northbound on I-65 and that she was being kidnapped and held hostage. Helen E. Jones (44) of Anderson, Ca. was posting on Facebook and Facebook live that she was being held in her Semi against her will and that a man was in the sleeper of the cab with hand grenades and explosives and threatening her not to stop for anyone. Several Police agencies were tracking the vehicle on I-65 and the 2013 Freightliner was finally located at the 121 mile marker by the Bullitt Co Sheriff’s Dept. KSP Troopers and Deputies from the Bullitt Co. S.O. attempted to stop the vehicle at the 122 mile marker but the truck proceeded on in a safe manner at approximately 75 mph. When the Semi and the Police units were coming upon the Fern Valley Road overpass the Semi-truck swerved off of the roadway in what appeared to be an intentional manner and struck the overpass supports. The road was immediately shut down and LMPD’s explosives unit was called to the scene to check for explosives on or in the truck. The truck was determined to be free of explosives and Ms. Jones was found to be the only person in the cab. She was taken by ambulance to University of Louisville Hospital where she is listed in Stable condition. The roadway was closed for several hours due to the clean up and bridge inspection. The case is under investigation by Trooper Kyle Lashley and the accident is under investigation by KSP Sgt. Hunter Martin.
