KSP Investigates Fatal Collisions in Magoffin County

SALYERSVILLE, KY(January 02, 2017) Kentucky State Police, Pikeville Post, is investigating two separate fatal collisions that occurred in Magoffin County over the holiday weekend.
The first incident occurred during the evening hours of Saturday, December 31, 2016. The preliminary investigation indicated that Sara Berry was traveling westbound on the Mountain Parkway in the Salyersville community of Magoffin County. Berry lost control of her 2008 Nissan Sentra, crossing into the oncoming lane and colliding with a 2013 Chevrolet pickup. Berry, 33 of Harrodsburg KY, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Magoffin County Coroner, Mark Jenkins.
In the morning hours of January 02, 2017, KSP Post 09 received a call regarding another collision on the Mountain Parkway in the Salyersville community. The preliminary investigation indicated that Thomas Clawson was traveling westbound before losing control, crossing into the oncoming lane, and striking a vehicle traveling eastbound. Clawson, 57 of Lebanon OH, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Magoffin County Coroner.
Evidence at both scenes indicated Berry and Clawson were wearing seatbelts. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in either collision.
The ongoing investigations are being conducted by Trooper Tiffany Bond and Trooper Paul Johnson.
