News Release

Copper Wire Theft & Arrest in Greenup County

Date of News Release: 03/13/2012

(Ashland, Ky.) -- The Kentucky State Police in Ashland have arrested an Ohio resident after it was discovered he was in possession of copper wire believed to have been stolen from the Huntington area. On 03-12-2012 around 1:00 PM Trooper Devan Cleaver was on patrol in the Lloyd area of US 23 and conducted a traffic stop on a 1994 Toyota Camry driven by 27 year old Corey L. Murphy of Stout, OH. After Murphy stopped his vehicle, he fled on foot in an attempt to elude Trooper Cleaver. Murphy was quickly apprehended and arrested. Over 200 pounds of copper wire was discovered inside of Murphy's vehicle and it was later determined the wire belonged to CSX of Huntington, WV.

Murphy was lodged in the Greenup County Detention Center and charged with Possession of Burglary Tools, Fleeing and Evading 2nd Degree, Receiving Stolen Property u/10,000.
