Post 2 - 2011 Activity Report

Date of News Release: 01/09/2012

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- For the year of 2011, Post 2 Reports the following activity:

**There were 36 fatalities in 34 crashes reported in the Post 2 District in 2011. This is a decrease from 2010 when 44 lives were lost in 38 fatal crashes.

The following is a breakdown by county of fatalities in the Post 2 District in 2011:

Caldwell 3 crashes 3 fatalities
Christian 10 crashes 11 fatalities
Crittenden 2 crashes 2 fatalities
Hopkins 8 crashes 8 fatalities
Muhlenberg 5 crashes 6 fatalities
Todd 5 crashes 5 fatalities
Webster 1 crashes 1 fatalities

Of the 36 fatalities in 2011, 10 were not wearing seat belts, 14 were wearing seat belts, 5 were not wearing a helmet, 3 were pedestrians, 3 were not applicable, and the seat belt status of 1 is unknown.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free in Kentucky at 1-800-222-5555. Callers may remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.

Throughout the year, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd and Webster.

**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
