Date of Release: 09/29/05

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Sept. 29, 2005) - Twenty-four individuals are slated to arrive at the Kentucky State Police (KSP) Academy, 919 Versailles Road, Frankfort, at 1 p.m. (EDT), Sunday, Oct. 2, to begin the KSP's second accelerated cadet class.

This 85th KSP Cadet Class is comprised of Kentucky law enforcement officers with at least three years of previous law enforcement experience, which is one of the qualifiers for the accelerated class. Accelerated cadet classes last 11 weeks; standard cadet classes last 22 weeks. The agency's first accelerated class graduated in January 2003.

Cadets in the accelerated class will graduate with the 84th Cadet Class, a 22-week class currently in session, on Dec. 20, 2005.

News media representatives are welcome to shoot photos or video throughout the afternoon. The cadets will not be available for interviews, but academy staff will be available for comments. Activities will include cadet check-in and orientation, introduction of academy staff, haircuts, issuing of uniforms, personal gear, instruction materials and equipment, assignment of dorm rooms, a one-and-a-half-mile run and a variety of physical fitness training and testing.

Cadets in the accelerated class represent the following Kentucky communities: Alvaton, Boston, Buffalo, Campton, Crittenden, Falls of Rough, Frenchburg, Georgetown, Elizabethtown, Kuttawa, Lancaster, Lawrenceburg, Leitchfield, Lexington, London, Mayfield, Maysville, Paris, Pineville, Prestonsburg, Richmond, Salem, Scottsville and Smiths Grove.
