Six Die On Kentucky Roadways Last Week (March 6 through March 12)

Date of News Release: 03/13/2006

(FRANKFORT, Ky.) - Preliminary statistics* indicate that six people died in six separate crashes on Kentucky's roadways from Monday, March 6, 2006, through Sunday, March 12, 2006.

Preliminary data* indicates alcohol was not a suspected factor in any of the six crashes. Five of the victims were not wearing seat belts and the seatbelt status of the sixth victim is not known.

The six single fatality crashes occurred in Boone, Butler, Fayette, Martin, Montgomery and Powell counties.

Through March 12, 2006, a total of 121 people have lost their lives on Kentucky roadways. This is 36 fewer than reported for this time period in 2005. Sixty of these 121 fatalities were not wearing seat belts.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.

*These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
