Trooper Island Camp Receives $25,000.00 Donation

(LONDON, KY) -On Tuesday, October 14, 2003 managers of CitiFinancial Bank representing offices in London, Hazard, Corbin, Harlan, Pikeville, and Paintsville met with Trooper Island Camp Director Sergeant Rob Winsett and London Post Public Affairs Officer Trooper Craig Sutton and presented them with a check for $25,000.00 to benefit Trooper Island.

In 1965 the Kentucky State Police developed Trooper Island on Dale Hollow Lake near the Clinton-Cumberland County line as a boys camp. Trooper Island, which has, since been converted to a co-ed camp, now serves approximately 700 boys and girls ages 10 to 12, selected from across the commonwealth at to attend camp at no charge during the summer months.

The children who have been chosen may not otherwise have the opportunity to attend a camp. Four additional camps during the summer help children with Vision Impairments, PKU (phenylketonuria), Heart Complications and a Hispanic camp.

Trooper Island is a non-profit charitable corporation, which operates from contributions and charitable activities held by Kentucky State Police posts across the state. Some of the ways in which money has been raised for Trooper Island are golf scrambles, motorcycle runs, fishing tournaments and the yearly statewide raffle.

Anyone that would like to make a donation can contact your local Public Affairs Officer at any of the Kentucky State Police Posts across the state. Further information on Trooper Island can be found by clicking here.
