New KSP Cadets Report For Training On Sunday, Oct. 24

(FRANKFORT, Ky.) - Members of the 83rd Kentucky State Police Cadet Class will begin a 22-week training course at the State Police Academy in Frankfort on Sunday, Oct. 24 with 63 cadet troopers reporting for duty.
Cadets are expected to arrive at 1 p.m. EDT. News media representatives are welcome to shoot video and speak with cadets until 2:00 p.m. and members of the academy staff throughout the afternoon. Activities will include cadet check-in and orientation, introduction of academy staff, haircuts, issuing of uniforms, instruction materials and equipment, assignment of dorm rooms, a one-and-a-half-mile run and a variety of physical fitness training and testing.
Geographically, the cadets represent 44 communities throughout Kentucky. Four are from Louisville with two each from Bardstown, Berea, Liberty, Murray, Oak Grove and Pikeville. Other Kentucky communities represented include Alexandria, Banner, Bethelridge, Brownsville, Burlington, Campbellsville, Columbia, Corbin, Feds Creek, Franklin, Glasgow, Greensburg, Harold, Hopkinsville, Lewisburg, Lexington, Lily, London, Madisonville, Maysville, Morehead, Mt. Vernon, Nancy, Nicholasville, Owensbro, Petersburg, Pine Top, Phyllis, Richmond, Rockfield, Scottsville, Shelbyville, Shepherdsville, Springfield, Union, Verona, Wildie and Williamsburg. Nine cadets are from out of state.
During their training, the cadets will study the laws and statutes of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the history of the KSP, as well accident and criminal investigation techniques, vehicle pursuit, DUI enforcement, firearms training, first aid, and many other aspects of becoming a Kentucky State Police trooper. The cadets are expected to graduate on March 26, 2005.
