Kentucky State Police Undergo Accreditation Review -
Public Comments Welcome

(FRANKFORT, KY) - Beginning December 7 and concluding on December 12, the Kentucky State Police will be participating in its first on-site review for compliance with national police standards through theCommission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).

The overall purpose of CALEA's accreditation program is to improve delivery of law enforcement service by offering a body of standards, developed by law enforcement practitioners, covering a wide range of up-to-date law enforcement topics. It recognizes professional achievements by offering an orderly and voluntary process for addressing and complying with applicable standards. The Kentucky State Police began its pursuit of CALEA accreditation in 2000 when they signed a contract to complete the process within three years.

As part of the upcoming on-site review, three law enforcement professionals from outside of the Commonwealth will spend a week with the agency as they visit and interview personnel at headquarters and selected posts and branches.

At each of these sites, the assessors will take the opportunity to review policies, procedures, and documentation, or "proofs of compliance", as well as listen to our employees speak to how the agency complies with CALEA standards.

Lastly, as part of a public information session, the Kentucky State Police is providing the toll-free number of 1-877-218-0001 for the general public to call and provide comments regarding the agency to the CALEA on-site team. This public information phone line will be open to the public on Monday, December 9 starting at 1:00 p.m. All comments are welcome.
