Princeton, KY. On Thursday, December 7, 2017, the Kentucky State Police Professional Association (KSPPA) District 2 conducted its 21st annual “Shop with a Trooper” (S.W.A.T.) program. This program is designed to assist provide children with items of need during the Christmas season.

Throughout the month, Troopers from the Mayfield Kentucky State Police Post conducted traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 1 District. KSP utilizes traffic safety checkpoints to promote safety for motorists and to provide a deterrent for those who violate laws contained in the Kentucky Revised Statutes.
The intent of a traffic safety checkpoint is to provide a highly visible, public safety service focusing on vehicular equipment deficiencies, confirming appropriate registration and insurance of vehicles, and the valid licensing of drivers. Violations of law or other public safety issues that arise shall be addressed.

Through December 1, 2017, preliminary results show there have been forty-two people killed on the roadways in the Post 1 District: eighteen victims were not wearing seatbelts, five fatalities involved the suspected use of alcohol or drugs, one involved an off-road vehicle, one involved a motorcycle, and two pedestrians were struck and killed.

Citizens may also report tips anonymously through the KSP app. The app is available for iPhone, iPad and Android applications and can be easily downloaded free of charge through Apple and Google Play stores.

Linda K. Comer, 29 years old of Green Co KY was killed on 11/29/17 in Green Co KY
This brings our yearly fatality count to 23 compared with 31 through this same period in 2016.
During the month of November 2017, there were 1082 citations written, 237 courtesy notices written, 1164 vehicles inspected, 682 complaints answered, 70 motorists assisted, 54 criminal cases opened and 185 criminal arrests made.
