FRANKFORT, Ky. (January 12, 2023) – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) has been requested to investigate a trooper-involved shooting that occurred on January 12th, 2023, at approximately 3:20 p.m. EST in Franklin County.
The KSP Critical Incident Response Team responded to the scene, and the investigation into the incident remains ongoing. The preliminary investigation indicates that KSP troopers were attempting to conduct a traffic stop in Woodford County on Interstate 64 but the vehicle failed to stop and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The pursuit traveled from Woodford county, through Franklin County, into Shelby County, and back into Franklin County before ending near the Graefenburg exit. During the pursuit, the operator of the vehicle discharged a firearm in the direction of pursuing law enforcement officers. At the conclusion of the pursuit, troopers and a Shelby County Sheriff’s deputy discharged their agency-issued firearms striking the subject. The individual was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries.
