Shelbyville, KY (April 7, 2021) — At approximately 12:14 PM EST Kentucky State Police Troopers made a traffic stop near the 59 mile marker on I-64 west. Upon approaching the vehicle, the driver sped off striking the trooper and initiating a pursuit. The driver and lone occupant began throwing items out the window of the vehicle, crossed the median of the interstate and began traveling west in the east bound lanes. Law enforcement shut down the interstate due to public safety concerns.
The driver came to a stop around the 41mm ending pursuit and was taken into custody without further incident at approximately 12:31 PM. Kentucky State Police conducted moving roadblocks on both the east and west lanes of the interstate in an effort to collect items thrown from the vehicle during the pursuit.
Trooper Josh Giles who was struck by the vehicle suffered minor injuries. Due to further criminal investigation by K.S.P. and pending charges, the identity of the driver will not be released.
