FRANKFORT, Ky. (June, 29, 2022) -KSP is committed to being transparent while ensuring the integrity of the investigation. To protect the integrity of an ongoing investigation, it is KSP’s standard operating procedure not to release specific details until vital witnesses have been interviewed and pertinent facts gathered.  Timelines to complete investigations vary based on the complexity of the case.

The recently enacted commonwealth budget for FY22-23 includes the funding necessary for the Kentucky State Police to purchase body cameras, equip, and train officers and store the video footage for approximately 650 sworn personnel. The budget has been signed by Gov. Beshear and the funds will be available beginning July 1, 2022. At that time, KSP will work with the Finance and Administration Cabinet to solicit vendors to purchase the equipment and storage software needed. Once a vendor has been placed under contact KSP will provide the necessary training to the officers who will be outfitted with a body camera.
