MORGANFIELD, Ky. (March 17, 2023) — The Kentucky State Police (KSP) has been requested by Union County Sheriff’s Office to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred at approximately 7:50 pm CST on March 16, 2023.

At the request of the Union County Sheriff’s Office, KSP’s Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) and KSP Post 16 investigators arrived on the scene and began an investigation into the incident.

A male subject was transported from the scene to a local hospital for treatment of injuries.

A Union County deputy was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries and has been released.

KSP has statewide jurisdiction and investigates officer-involved shootings throughout the Commonwealth as requested by local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.  KSP is committed to being transparent while ensuring the integrity of the investigation.  To protect the integrity of an ongoing investigation, it is KSP’s standard operating procedure not to release specific details until vital witnesses have been interviewed and pertinent facts gathered.  Timelines to complete investigations vary based on the complexity of the case.
